The Waste Tyre Management Draft Plan has been further delayed while tyre waste piles up at retailers and local tyre manufacturers.

Nduduzo Chala, Managing Executive of the South African Tyre Manufacturers Conference (SATMC), the representative body for local tyre manufacturers Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Sumitomo Rubber, said the ongoing delay in addressing the accumulation of waste tyres is causing retailers and manufacturers to run out of space to store waste tyres, creating severe problems for the tyre industry as a whole.
