The SATMC and its advantage to you.
The South African Tyre Manufacturers Conference acts as the co-ordination centre for the South African tyre manufacturers and was established around 1970 to support its members who are the local tyre manufacturers in South Africa, Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Sumitomo.
The SATMC is the generic face of the five SA tyre manufacturers to Government, the motor industry and the public. It represents the interests of the manufacturers and lobbies with various organisations on non-competitive issues of common concern to the South African tyre manufacturers.
The four SA tyre manufacturers all have international links to ownership and/or technology. In addition to supplying the local market they also export tyres to various countries. They are reliant on some imports for strategic parts of their extended product range. The manufacturers have product technology advances, production efficiencies, marketing skills and distribution networks.
NUMSA and Solidarity is the major union representing workers in the tyre manufacturing industry. The local industry is small in comparison to the rest of the world at 1%. No tyre production facilities exist in the BLNS countries.
